WEEK 5 WAIVER WIRE

Another long slow week in the waiver pool means there may be some trades brewing here shortly - keep your phones on! Otherwise, here's what's left on the wire this week:

QUARTERBACKS

  1. Jimmy Garoppolo Las Vegas Raiders vs Green Bay There aren't a lot of great options on the waiver wire - but Jimmy G is still available. He sat out last week but his presence on the Raiders offense is necessary for them to win games. He's had two games that he looked like a middling QB in, and one game against a GOOD defense. This week, the Raiders take on the Packers - who have struggled on the defensive side of the ball. Don't let that fool you though, they are a halfway decent pass-defending team. Davante Adams will definitely want to score in his Homecoming to GB, but the overall impact of this offense will rely heavily on Jimmy G.

  2. Zach Wilson New York Jets vs Denver WOWZA, we're talking about ZACH WILSON as a Waiver Add in Week 5... Don't call it a desperation move yet! Wilson looked good against the Chiefs last week - he put up nearly 20pts after going 28 for 39, 245Yds and 2PaTD's. The benching of Dalvin Cook more or less signified the Jets are going to start throwing the ball again - which is good news for Breece Hall owners. Wilson needs to prove himself still - but he's trending in the right direction after last week.

RUNNINGBACKS

  1. Justice Hill Baltimore Ravens vs Pittsburgh A new name on the horizon... Justice Hill will probably be on the Waiver Wire cycle for the season. The Ravens don't have RB depth after losing JK Dobbins for the year yet again. Justice Hill, Melvin Gordon, Gus Edwards, and the mysterious rookie named Keaton Mitchell - who is expected to return from IR this week. Hill would be the play if you need points today, but Mitchell might not be a bad stash on your bench, seeing how inconsistent the Purple and Black backfield has been in years past.

  2. Deuce Vaughn Dallas Cowboys vs San Francisco Rico may be hurt with an injury - so here's your next best option... Deuce Vaughn has been making a case for himself since the preseason, and he might finally get his chance if Dowdle sits out. Vaughn's size is often the focus on why he won't find success in the NFL - but his preseason tape shows he's shifty, explosive, and doesn't give up. Sounds a lot like Tony Pollard, eh?

WIDE RECEIVERS

  1. Kendrick Bourne New England Patriots vs New Orleans Another new name to add to your radar... Bourne had a great start to the year with DeVante Parker and Juju struggling to find a rhythm. Part of the reason Bourne hasn't exploded since Week 1 is the matchups he's had (Miami, NYJ, Dallas), but it's mostly because he's TD Dependent. Philly might've been an anomaly (6/11 for 64Yds, 2TDs), but he has the most targets on the Pats roster across all positions. That could continue over the next two weeks as the Patriots take on two struggling defenses (New Orleans: 304 PaYds Against per game, and Las Vegas: 307 PaYds Against per game).

  2. Braxton Berrios Miami Dolphins vs New York Giants Miami is doing impressive things... and although they have either put up lots of offense or a little offense, they're still moving the ball well. Thing is... the Giants don't have a great offense, so if Miami goes up early, they may not need to throw the ball in the second half. Berrios is a flex play at best in this scenario, as he takes over for River Cracraft for the next few weeks. He could be a good add until Cracraft is expected to return (Week 8).

TIGHT ENDS

  1. Taysom Hill New Orleans Saints vs New Orleans Taysom Hill vs New England. The Patriots aren't an offensive powerhouse, and neither is New Orleans. This could be a low-scoring affair, and Taysom Hill has gamebreaker written all over it. Put Hill in under center when you're in the redzone and you immediately open up a triple option. Might be crucial in a game neither offense can find the endzone...

  2. Tyler Conklin New York Jets vs Denver I've dropped Hayden Hurst from the list because Bryce Young is hurt - and that's realistically the only reason why. Conklin has a decent relationship with Zach Wilson - but the Denver Defense is anemic. He could haul in two catches for 30yds and 2 TDs this week... or they could use him a lot more. Regardless, Conklin might be a saving grace for your Bye Week.

DEFENSE/SPECIAL TEAMS

  1. Washington Commanders vs Chicago If you thought Green Bay was bad, then you'd be impressed to find that Chicago has found a way to be worse. Washington's Defense looked respectable against the NFL's best record last week (4-0 Philly), despite giving up 400 All-Purpose Yds. On the flip side, they have three favorable matchups in a row - Chicago at home, Atlanta Falcons on the road, and then New York Giants on the road. All three are very winnable games for good defenses. Stream option? Yes please!

  2. Tennessee Titans vs Indianapolis The only decent defense outside of Washington on the wire is Tennessee - and that's because they're lights-out in the running game. The most Rushing Yds allowed on the season in one game for the Titans stands at 78yds - and that's not going to change as they take on the Colts, who are still missing Taylor. Tennessee also has a few favorable matchups over the coming weeks, so this could be another great streaming option before you dump them at the deadline for a draft pick.

KICKERS

  1. Jason Sanders Miami Dolphins vs New York (N) Miami is #1. They score points, and their kicker gets deployed regularly. Why not get a guy who get's chances to score everytime the offense takes the field?

  2. Joey Slye Washington Commanders vs Chicago If the offense does well, the kicker does well. And the Chicago defense allows everyone to play well - so add Joey Slye for a free 6pts MINIMUM this week. Washington puts up at least 24pts... The Over/Under is currently 44.5, and Washington has a -5.5 spread.... time to put together a parlay.
