One of the most coveted positions in football, you need a quality quarterback in order to win games. The best QB's in Fantasy are mobile, agile, and can throw the ball with accuracy. Power isn't a necessity, but that's because those quality QB's are busy getting the ball into their playmakers hands - not lofting it downfield every play for a chance at a big gain. It's tough to gauge if a good college QB will translate to the NFL, because everyone has a different approach once they make the show. Or you can take a look at the numbers like me - as I predict who will be the hot-commoddity this upcoming season, based on the additions to their offense and last season's output.
Jalen Hurts - Philadelphia Eagles 14 Games | 391.58pts | 27.97VpGP | 88% Start | 1.07RelVal Our top-notch talent this year was none other than Jalen Hurts - who surprised many and took the high-flying Eagles to the Super Bowl. It helped to have a deep threat like AJ Brown who was added via trade prior to the season - and the chemistry built from there. I’d expect these two to be staples in that offense for a long time. What blows my mind is that Hurts wasn't decided on as the QB1 for Philly until they struck out on trades for Russell Wilson and DeShaun Watson. Since then, Hurts earned Fantasy MVP and a Super Bowl berth after an impressive 25/6 TD/INT ratio in the regular season - not to mention the 18 rushing TD's. The best part? Fantasy owners know he's only 24 and has a lot of football ahead of him. That's why he's holding down the #1 spot in our QB Fantasy Rankings.
Josh Allen - Buffalo Bills 15 Games | 393.76pts | 26.25VpGP | 94% Start | 1.01RelVal The Buffalo Bills are entering their "now or never" window with Josh Allen and Stefon Diggs. The 27-year old Signal Caller is entering his sixth year with the Bills, but they have yet to make it past the AFC Championship game. This past year, it all came crumbling down against the Bengals in the AFC Divisional Round. Many outlets have pointed to the departure of Brian Daboll to New York, resulting in the promotion of Ken Dorsey. Dorsey's offensive play-calling had some clear regression from prior seasons, and it is creating ripples. Could it be enough to send Diggs packing? Only time will tell. Allen has the talent to keep this team in any game, and the addition of Dalton Kinkaid will help them move the ball downfield. That being said, his best asset as a fantasy player is his arm and ability to get the ball in the end zone. If you're counting on him to pull through for you in the post-season this year, you may want to look elsewhere. The Bills toughest stretch of games comes Week 11 to Week 18 - when they go through a gauntlet of opponents (Jets / @Eagles / @Chiefs / Bye / Cowboys / @Chargers / Patriots / @Dolphins). MVP caliber? Absolutely. But his production will be very front-heavy this season.
Justin Herbert - Los Angeles Chargers 16 Games | 276.94pts | 17.31VpGP | 100% Start | 0.66RelVal It's been only three years since Justin Herbert was selected 6th Overall in the 2020 NFL Draft by the LA Chargers. The former Oregon Duck QB has amassed an impressive 14k yards, nearly 100 PaTD's, and only 35 INT's. TouchdownWire says that his track record indicates a championship back in LA in the near future - especially with Kellen Moore taking over as OC. The stars are aligning for a run this season, if I do say so myself... Keenan Allen and Mike Williams will have one year (or possibly two, depending on their Contract Option at the end of the season) together along with Austin Ekeler in the backfield. Add in the new WR Quinten Johnston along with the return of TE Gerald Everett and this team has the core to move the ball downfield effectively. Herbert's numbers last season weren't mesmerizing like in years past, but he wasn't far off the mark. Don't be surprised to see another uptick in offensive production coming from the Chargers - and for Herbert to be an MVP candidate once again.
Joe Burrow - Cincinnati Bengals 15 Games | 370.70pts | 23.17VpGP | 94% Start | 0.89RelVal Burrow is the QB with the highest floor, in my opinion. The guy can flat out ball - and he's shown that it doesn't matter who is around him, he knows how to get it done. In the last two seasons, Burrow has eclipsed 4400PaYds (this includes last year's "No Contest" against the Bills in Week 17). Add in the Bengals O-Line improving and you have this team taking another step in the right direction. With Ja'Marr Chase as WR1 and Mixon leading the backfield charge again, the only big change is moving from Hayden Hurts to Irv Smith. Smith's track record isn't too impressive due to injury, but it's not slowing down the Bengals coaches optimism about his awareness and intelligence. Cincinnati is the AFC North Favorite as a result. Burrow is a must-have player on your team if you want to set-it-and-forget-it.
Patrick Mahomes - Kansas City Chiefs 16 Games | 426.32pts | 26.65VpGP | 100% Start | 1.02RelVal One of the most electric QB's in the league right now, Patrick Mahomes could land anywhere on this list. He has the talent to torch the league, or he could falter due to changes in the offensive scheme. One thing he does that Chiefs fans and players have noticed - is he can spot talent with the best of them. That's causing Kadarius Toney stock to skyrocket this off-season, but Mahomes needs someone to replace Tyreek Hill's role on the offense and Toney might be the perfect fit now that he's had some time to adjust to the new formations. Patrick's QB2 season last year (426pts, 1.02RelVal) was only second to Jalen Hurts to performance impact - and the Chiefs are gearing up for another run with their explosive offense. While the RB room needs to be addressed, Mahomes can extend plays and keep KC in it with his feet if they get desperate about mixing up the play-calling.
Trevor Lawrence - Jacksonville Jaguars 16 Games | 291.44pts | 18.22VpGP | 100% Start | 0.70RelVal The Jacksonville Jaguars are building something special with Doug Pederson at the helm, and Trevor Lawrence is one of the leading reasons why. Last year, Pederson helped the Jaguars bounce back from a horrific 3-14 season - which unfortunately was TLaw's first full year in the NFL. In 2022, the Jags pulled a 9-8 record together and won a playoff game against the Chargers 31-30. There's only one "new" face in Jacksonville this year, and it's Calvin Ridley. Now that Lawrence has had an entire year with the playbook, Ridley's inclusion should be seamless. Travis Etienne, Christian Kirk, Zay Jones and Evan Engram are all very excited to see what they can do this season - and you can expect the offense to take another jump once Ridley finds his stride again.
Lamar Jackson - Baltimore Ravens 12 Games | 244.08pts | 20.34VpGP | 75% Start | 0.78RelVal Lamar is one of the most versatile players in the league, but there's a new OC in town and he wants Lamar to use his arm a bit more this year. Not great for LJ8 fantasy fans, but we'll see how long we get into the season before the Baltimore Coaches give up on trying to contain him. Lamar makes plays, and he extends them. He's a high risk player too - he doesn't mind going for the pylon. One thing HAS changed for Jackson - he's got all kinds of talent around him this year. League-mates, exec's and coaches all think Lamar is a Top-10 QB by himself... add in OBJ, rookie Zay Flowers - things are looking great for the new air attack. Let's not forget a healthy Mark Andrews and the Ravens WR group headlined by Rashod Batemon and Devin Duvernay. Jackson has the highest ceiling this year, and (in my expert opinion) could be in the running for another MVP season.
Tua Tagovailoa - Miami Dolphins 13 Games | 254.92pts | 19.61VpGP | 81% Start | 0.75RelVal The man who set the league on fire through the first few weeks of the season last year earned a spot on my Top-10 list. If he can stay healthy, of course. Tua had those two jarring and scary injuries last year, but it hasn't stopped him from wanting to be on the gridiron with his team. He missed the Dolphins AFC Playoff matchup against the Bills, and you can imagine he's hungry for more. BleacherReport says Tua is fantastic as a pocket passer - but he needs more "It Factor" if he wants to take this team deep in the post-season... lucky for you, Fantasy Football ends before the playoffs begin! Pencil him in on your list of QBs to keep an eye on during your draft.
Jared Goff - Detroit Lions 16 Games | 296.76pts | 18.55VpGP | 100% Start | 0.71RelVal The Brand New Lions are building a new culture under MCDC (Motor City Dan Campbell) - and it’s creating a spark in both the players - and the city. Detroit's GM Brad Holmes has said several times (on the record) that he is building a future around Jared Goff and their young offensive core. Some people see the pieces they've brought in and are jumping to an MVP caliber season from Goff. While he has the ability to climb above the #9 spot, let's take a look at last season before we polish his Bust in Canton. Goff struggled on the road, but was a force to be reckoned with at Ford Field. Jamaal Williams helped spark the Lions hunt for the playoffs last year - driving the team to Week 18 before being eliminated. But Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jahmyr Gibbs, and even Jameson Williams are contributing in several ways. Don't forget Ben Johnson is sticking around too... the second-year OC probably has even more tricks up their sleeves. Goff may be a great QB2 for your team, but he has the potential to become a Top-10 QB if he can iron out his road games.
Justin Fields - Chicago Bears 12 Games | 205.1pts | 17.09VpGP | 75% Start | 0.79RelVal Let’s take a look at standout Justin Fields. Starting the year at the 17th Ranked QB in the league, he surged his way to a top-5 finish as a dual-threat QB. The problem is… he’s on the Bears, and they don’t have a lot of passing options. Sure, they landed Chase Claypool in-season last year, but that won’t give them the options they need to compete in the NFC North alone. They also made the jump to grab DJ Moore from Carolina - giving their core a much-needed boost. Their WR core now consists of Moore, Chase Claypool, Darnell Mooney, Velus Jones Jr., and Equanimeous St. Brown. Fields will continue to be a running threat next season… and he already thinks quite highly of himself. That being said, unless the Bears address their O-Line - the deep throws will be limited. With the talent the Bears have on the outside of their formation, they have a chance to make magic happen… we’ll see if they can paint some lipstick on their pig.
