2024 - Week 1 Waiver Wire

Better late than never! It's that time of year... time I yell into the abyss for no one to hear. Let's take a look at who's still alive and on the Waiver Wire ahead of this week's games:

  1. Michael Wilson WR Arizona Cardinals Wilson has shown flashes of talent last year while dealing with Arizona's QB Carousel - hauling in 38 catches on 58 targets for 565yds and 3TDs. Now, he's looking in passes from Kyler Murray - who likes to scramble. Routes break down and systems get abandoned because of the scrambling. There's already rumblings pointing at MHJ's shortcomings, but I don't think those are worth merit just yet. Wilson is currently listed 3rd on the Depth Chart behind Harrison Jr. and Greg Dortch, but don't forget about Trey McBride and James Conner. Despite all the mouths to feed, if Harrison doesn't find a rhythm - don't be surprised if Wilson gets worked into the game plan.

  2. Alexander Mattison RB Las Vegas Raiders Mattison is listed as RB2 in Vegas right now, but he's playing like RB1. It was not expected, as Zamir White was the guy listed at the top of the depth chart, but Mattison logged more snaps and more yards, despite seeing fewer touches. If this trend continues, Mattison shares will be skyrocketing - and you'll be wishing you hopped on-board while the ticket was still available.

  3. Mike Gesicki TE Cincinnati Bengals Joe Burrow stock is sliding off a cliff right now, but I think that's misplaced. Burrow has shown elite potential, and one thing he is missing right now is his check-down... Gesicki is that guy. Sure, Drew Sample is currently listed as TE1... but Gesicki is the one getting tartets. As one of the better pass-catching tight-ends in the league, it's a shame he wasted some of his best years in Miami behind Jaylen Waddle and Tyreek Hill. In this offense, Ja'Marr Chase will command the most attention from defenses while Tee Higgins will take a lot of what's left. That's going to leave favorable matchups for a big, sure-handed target in the red zone. I'd say Gesicki can finish as a Top 10 TE if this offense gets their sh*t together. But in the same breath, he could end up as TE30... it's a risk.

  4. Jalen Nailor WR Minnesota Vikings There's been flashes of brilliance from this young WR, but he's buried in the depth chart. Like the next guy on this list, this is more of a 'prayer' than a "good add". On one hand, an injury above him will thrust him into a lot of Playing Time *cough cough* Jordan Addison *cough cough* - he's already seeing the field in his current role. On the other hand, he's behind Justin Jefferson and Jordan Addison, not to mention the TE's (currently) Josh Oliver and (eventually) TJ Hockenson. Nailor has more room to grow than most young WR's, but like Addison last year - he could impress us if he's put in the spotlight.

  5. Luke McCaffrey WR Washington Commanders Is this guy really worth it? Probably not, but he's young, he's got energy - and he's currently Jayden Daniels' favorite check-down target. McCaffrey led all Washington WR's last week in RecYds, and 4th overall behind Ekeler, Robinson, and Ertz. Granted, it wasn't a lot of yards (18 on 3 receptions), but it all starts somewhere. Like I said - it's a shot in the dark. Don't put any money on it!
